FIS is Climatically Neutral

06/03/2022
Climate change is the key task of our time. The consequences of global warming are becoming more and more apparent and the pressure on policy makers and companies is growing. There is now a global consensus that man-made climate change must urgently be addressed.

The successful reduction of emissions substantially depends on voluntary and consistent efforts in the economies of industrialized countries. Consequently, FIS Informationssysteme und Consulting GmbH (FIS) as well is willing to assume responsibility for the world we will be leaving to our children and grandchildren.

This is why FIS has had recorded the greenhouse gas emissions caused by its corporate activities and has compensated them by acquiring a total of 1,728 climate protection certificates for 2022 and 2023. These certificates support a wind energy project in Mexico that was certified through CER under the sovereignty of the United Nations as well as a hydropower project in Brazil certified under the sovereignty of the Verified Carbon Standard.

“We are aware of our particular responsibility as a company for future generations and have acted accordingly,” explains Christian Lang, FIS management board member. The carbon footprint determined for FIS amounts to approx. 864 tons of carbon equivalents per year, which is a low value compared with other industries. By way of illustration: On average, a German causes approx. 11.6 tons of CO2 emissions per year due to their lifestyle.

On the basis of the values determined and through the acquisition of a corresponding quantity of climate certificates, FIS was made climate-neutral and awarded as “climatically neutral company” by Beratungsgesellschaft Fokus Zukunft.
